It’s safe to say that…

The WP upgrade is supposed to be one of the easiest upgrades, but it has failed my expectations miserably!

Aside from that, I’ve been having a rough couple of days lately. Work has not been easy and that must be just about the only reason it’s been kinda rough… Other then that, iBlog Solidario is coming up, Christmas is right around the corner and the New Year is upon us. =)

Did I mention that I need to do my laundry? I guess not…

My 4 Year Anniversary

So what happens when you miss your anniversary? In my opinion, absolutely nothing. Why should missing a 4 year anniversary affect the relationship you have? It makes no sense. As long as you remember at one point or another, it’s the thought that counts!

On that note… Happy 4 Year Anniversary Blog!
Technically a little over 4 years, but who’s counting

Obama speech in Berlin

A speech down played by presidential candidate John McCain.

I’d love to give a speech in Germany but I’d much prefer to do it as president of the United States rather than as a candidate for president

However these were some of the points he stated throughout his speech.

  • He said it was time to “defeat terror and dry up the well of extremism that supports it”, arguing that Islamic extremism could be defeated just as communism had been in its time
  • Is he Muslim?

  • He urged support for the Iraqis rebuilding their lives as the US passes responsibility to the Iraqi government and “finally brings this war to a close”
  • Bush and all Republicans should be happy…

  • It was the moment, he said, to “renew the goal of a world without nuclear weapons” and not “stand idly by and watch the further spread of the deadly atom”
  • Nothing new there…

  • He urged all countries to act with “the same seriousness of purpose” as Germany to reduce carbon emissions
  • I’m telling you, the man has to be nominated as world leader for the UN and partner up with Al Gore!

  • He called for global trade “that is free and fair for all”
  • via BBC News

I would consider him as the world speaker for the UN if he doesn’t win the Presidential Elections. He clearly demonstrated his popularity in Berlin and I’m sure it has grown since then with his speech.

y nah… tranquilo quieto por ahora.

    Norton Ghost 2003

Making backup files of my hard drives will be fun as always. My choice of software in order to do it is Norton Ghost 2003. I remember back in 2002 when I purchased my VAIO PCG-R505 with all the possible options in the world. Now it’s not worth much so I’m in need of replacing it as I vaguely stated in my last post.

Installing the few programs that I use isn’t fun so Norton Ghost should resolve the issue of having to do it over again. Now it’s time to reformat… adios!

    Download Norton Ghost 2003 here.

    iPhone

Not too sure if an iPhone is the way to go but I’m considering it. It’s either that or a trip to DR… or both!

    before'

    after

And like my father said, “Dure mi culpa lo que dura así de bonita”…

    Ajax version of BD.com excerpt

So I’m getting around to working on another form of publishing the most recently updated blogs for the Dominican blogosphere! Here’s what I have in mind.

We’ll be reading the directory feeds by category first and most updated second. This should allow me to break up the 3k(+) blogs and read their RSS/XML feed without timing the server out. Not having a dedicated server is definitely a drawback. Our hosting plan will only allow us to update 50-100 feeds per minute and we’re forced to watch the intervals in which we use the files to read the feeds.

Once the feeds are updated they will be sorted and updated dynamically. Similar to the excerpt. If you send a ping to bd.com, your blog will be moved up in the data base in order to be one of the first 50-100 blogs that are read by the files. Otherwise, your blog may be one of the last to be updated.

Although you ping the site, the list will be sorted by the last entry posted. If you send continuous pings to the site and don’t update your blog, it won’t mean a thing. The bottom line is that the new list will only display the blogs in the order in which they were updated.

At the moment, I am publishing the excerpt’s with an Ajax script. Nifty little thing that Ajax code. Wait until I can write the rest of the code for the list!

Update: After taking a closer look at the layout of the site and the number of posts that are actually published throughout the Dominican blogosphere, I must say that not too many bloggers are actually writing out there… then again I’ve only populated my database with about 200 feeds and the times are erroneous. Hopefully the times and frequency of published posts will reflect a more active blogosphere.

Furthermore, I’m reviewing the list and how to publish it. If the times and frequency of the posts remain the same, I may only publish an excerpt of the most recently updated blogs on the sidebar column.

Only time will tell whats really going to happen.

This might be a no brainer but you can’t say I didn’t ask

I don’t think that having a polital blog as blog de la semana is such a bad thing during elections week. As I posted on bd.com I wasn’t too sure which one to pick. Not to mention that this whole selection process that people have in mind would never work out. I’m better off just picking one at random, verifying that it’s a ligit blog, has readers, has a decent design and we’re good to go.

For the most part, majority of the blogs in the Dominican blogosphere are hosted on blogger. Which tells me that there is little if any theme changes going on. In other words, looks can’t have too much weight in the selection.

Other then that, I look forward to reviewing the blogs history in order to make my decision. Sometimes its a good one sometimes it’s a bad one… my decision that is.

    The E87

Code name E87 – BMW’s 1 Series is out on the streets and I’ve seen a few of them already. I think it looks a bit too boxy and over priced for such a small car. However, BMW compensates the price with the 300HP motor under the engine. At $10,000 more over a 02-05 M3, I wouldn’t even look at it to tell you the truth. But who knows what the price will be at in a year or two.
