Firefox

I am convinced… somewhat anyway… That firefox is a much cleaner and friendlier browser then IE… I started to use Firefox religiously about two days ago and I’ve gotten used to the theme… Thats right, just like word press you can change the Theme on your browser… they have a few Themes I liked but I’ve kept ‘Abstract PC’ theme… Well that’s the real reason I’ve kept using it… The other reason is because it provides a much more detailed look of pages that use Web Standards with Style Sheets… and I confirm that this is also true…

Bugged

I feel special… I have loaded the programs I use at work onto my laptop… Rockwell Automations RS Linx, RS Logix 500 & 5000… and Directsoft programs are amoungst the programs I’ve aquired. Nothing out of this world, but I’m certainly happy I’m able to bring home work… haha, yeah right… Hopefully It’ll come in handy to do some side work and personal projects as they come up…

New Post…

Where can I start… I’ve recently granted the opportunity to be a guest editor on Remolacha.net… Remo’s away and Bracuta has undergone surgery… Well being a guest editor on Remolacha.net has been quite an expirience so far. Trying to provide articles that are not biased in any way, shape or form is a bit complicated… You can’t be fair without being controversial… not to mention that the site recieves thousands of hits per day and it’s readers more then often speak thier mind when they disagree…

Blogs Dominicanos is still being worked on… I have a feeling it’s going to be a few days before its completely done… and even when it is “done”, it’ll constantly be updated… I’ll cross my fingers. hope nothing goes wrong, and back everything up now just in case anything is lost… and when it does, I’ll be thinking of Murphy’s Law… What can go wrong, Will go wrong…

3 ¿Qué película no recomendarías ver a nadie?

Prequel to Dumb & Dumberer, Chucky, Leperchaun In The Hood, Show Girls, Barb Wire, & I can’t stand Star Trek or any sequel to Star Wars…

4 ¿Qué película recuerdas de tu infancia ?

Friday The Thirteenth
&
The Exorcist

5 ¿Tu serie de televisión favorita (actual o antigua)?

Thunder Cats, He-Man, Different Strokes, Alvin & The Chipmunks, Fraggle Rock, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (los originales), The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, House, & Dead Wood…

Es Mi Vida…

Well as you can tell I’ve been busy… I’ve been eating patato chips, going to “painting parties”, moving furniture, plastering walls, playing basketball, watching movies, sleeping, watering the garden, cuting the grass, running, stressing at work, and taking deep breaths…

My cousin had a “Painting Party” in order to move into her apartment… They are pretty slick… this is the second cousin that has a “Painting Party”… I must say that they are fun tho… they start at about 8pm and the end at about 3 am… they provide the paint, rollers and brushes… and they can’t forget about the music, the food, or the drinks! After they have the painting party, they invite you over to “move in”…

I’ve also aquired three blisters! Thanks to the lovely winter and the longest absence from the basketball court, my feet are now accustomed to the basketball court for the rest of the summer…

I’ve also caught up on a few HBO series, Movies, TV shows, and local news… Cutting the grass has come in handy as well… I spent well over 2 hours this past weekend cutting the grass & trimming the edges on the sidewalk as well as the bushes around the house…

The Electrical Engineer that was “supposed” to come and give me a hand at work this past Monday never showed up! He told my boss that he got a counter-offer from his present employer… but truth be told, that the Latin Secretary @ our company advised him of the type of work he would be responsible for and took her advise… Mind you, I’m the EE Dept. Supervisor and she is telling me this… Que Lio… We are currently looking for another engineer to come aboard and help me with the projects…

That just about sums it all up…

Let Me Milk The Subject…

Two days left till Blogs Dominicanos is launched!!! I am hopefull that it will attract more Dominican Bloggers, Readers, and Enthusiasts into what has been growing at a steady rate over the last few years…

Here are some articles on the history of Web Logs…

2/23/00: Wired. “Thanks to new easy-to-use software, the number of weblogs on the Net seems to be growing at an unprecedented rate.”

8/2/99: New York Times. “Summaries of news predate the Internet, of course. But in the digital era, when virtually anyone with Net access can operate an electronic clipping service, the genre has spawned thousands of news hounds — not to mention the news links on big portal sites like Yahoo and Excite. Yet, largely through grass-roots, word-of-mouse popularity, sites like Romenesko’s are catching on with a discerning crowd — including reporters and editors of many news organizations, who rely on the sites to help filter the welter of information on the Web.”

5/28/99: Salon. “Weblogs, typically, are personal Web sites operated by individuals who compile chronological lists of links to stuff that interests them, interspersed with information, editorializing and personal asides. A good weblog is updated often, in a kind of real-time improvisation, with pointers to interesting events, pages, stories and happenings elsewhere on the Web. New stuff piles on top of the page; older stuff sinks to the bottom.”

Bueno, aqui estan unas cuanta fotos…

Warm Springs

In the words of President FDR,
“Not everything is made for profit…”

Watching Warm Springs on HBO was enlightening to say the least. The film is not only inspirational for paraplegics but people from all walks of life. It is truly a real life story of a man that brought real life issues to the face of American people. At the age 39, Franklin D. Roosevelt was stricken with infantile paralysis. Even with this un-imaginable occurence in his life, President FDR was the only President to be elected four times into office and the Man responsible for passing the social security tax…

President Roosevelt, named by Time Magazine “the foremost statesman and political leader” of the 20th Century. He founded the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation in 1927 long before he was known as the American President that we know today.

“And America succeeded absolutely. And with FDR’s death on the eve of total victory in the “Good War” in 1945, people no longer cared how the war had begun. Yet, our politics were poisoned by Roosevelt’s mendacity, as it would be by Truman’s undeclared war in Korea (“a police action”) and by Vietnam, when senators learned they had been deceived in the Tonkin Gulf incident. ”

Page Rank

OK… There is said to be an Algorithm to increase your Page Rank. Not like it matters much to me but I’ve started to use the algorithm… below are 5 steps that may also increase your Page Rank:

1. Join forums, forums are a great way to achieve links to your website. In most forums you are allowed to have a signature and in your signature you can put a link to your website.

2. Submit to search engine directories. Search engine directories are a good way to get a free link to your website.

3. Using ezine ads (or newsletters). Creating an ezine will probably be the most beneficial step you can take to increasing your web presence.

4. Creating and publishing articles. Articles are an easy source of generating new traffic. You can include your signature in your article. This will bring in more traffic from article submission directories.

5. Links from related websites. Gaining links from related websites can be one of the most frustrating tasks you can attempt.

6. It is also said that if you link to the CIA, your page rank also increases… I’ll let you all know if that works out…

15 Things You Can Do With RSS Feeds

Just the other day, I commented on RSS Feeds and using them to catch up on news etc… Tim Yang has added to the top 10 list of “Things You Can Do With RSS Feeds”…

1. Get the news as it happens from multiple news sources
An RSS feed reader is an aggregator of numerous feeds from news sources (and nearly every major paper and TV news network has RSS feeds today). But now there are even feeds that aggregate other feeds. The new RSSmixer.com lets you combine all the news source RSS feeds into one single feed so you get news as it happens.

2. Collect your email from all your email accounts in your RSS reader
Easily done with mailbucket.org. And each Gmail account has an RSS feed too. Or if you’re a user of Mailinator.com, then you’ll be glad there’s a similar service called dodgeit.com but with RSS feeds.

3.Track Fedex packages
Ben Hammersley says Just add your tracking number to the end of a special RSS feed address.

4.Get notified of bargains at Ebay
RSSauction.com lets you specify the type of product, its description and even the price range in their customised Ebay feeds.

5.Get stock updates
There have been various paid services and limited unpaid ticker services around. Tim Bray made a customisable feed. Yahoo is introducing its own RSS ticker service.

6.Get the weather reports
Weather Underground has the weather of every city and town in the world. And each of them now has an RSS feed.

7.Find out what people are saying about you, your company or your product online
Services like technorati.com and pubsub.com offer something that’s popularly called persistent search delivery. You type in a search term such as your name and or your company name or product name and they will return the newest indexed references to you in a customised RSS feed. Both services scan blogs. If you want persistent search delivery from a broader range of sites, you have Googlealert.com.

8.Get music, radio programs and TV clips
Now you have podcasts and archives like podcast.net that have everything from freely-distributed music to instructional programs, documentaries and news stories in mp3s. And increasingly, like Comedy Central’s Daily Show, broadcasters are finding it effective to promote and deliver their shows in RSS.

9.Stay updated on someone’s schedule
RSScalendar.com lets someone input new events and meetings on their schedule for free. And if you pick up the RSS feed for that schedule, you’re always up-to-date on what’s going on in that person’s day.

10.Get cinema schedule updates
Quietly getting popular, a movement led by small local cinemas like City Cinema, rather than big cinema networks. But the bigger cinemas are delivering updates via email and these can be converted into feeds by mailbucket.org.

11.Read your favourite comics
Many daily and weekly comic authors publish online and have an RSS feed. Dilbert of course has one. Best way to locate the feed is to type in the name of the comic into either Feedster.com or Bloglines.com (both are great RSS feed directories). And even if your favourite comic doesn’t have a feed on its website, a good comic will have someone somewhere creating an unofficial scraped feed. Comicalert.com has a large updated list of both official and unofficial RSS feed list of hundreds of comics.

12.Find out what other people surfing
I don’t mean spyware. A lot of people use online bookmarks which they make public. Places like del.icio.us, feedmarker.com, furl.net and the new wists.com are three such online bookmark services that create RSS feeds for each user.

13.Automatically backup your weblog posts
If your RSS feed is being picked up by an online feed reader service like Bloglines.com, they will store all your entries on their server. Unfortunately, they don’t have an export feature. But at least all your entries (if you have full entries in your RSS feed) are safe and dated.

14.Get software updates
Popular software downloads sites like Download.com and versiontracker.com let you keep up with all new releases via RSS. So you can also be alerted when your favourite softwares have a new version or when there are better releases.

15.Get the latest bittorrent files and ahem, p*rn
As they say, if its worth something, it’s worth more illegal. Bittorrent directory Torrentspy.com was the first to have an RSS feed that lets its users know what has just been uploaded. And the online p*rn industry, being always on the cutting edge of online business, was probably the first to take to blog CMSes and use them to generate traffic through RSS feeds. I’ll refrain from linking to one here, but it just takes a Google search to find several.
