The Perfect Ticket

I’ve got to thank my lucky stars… I got a ticket for running a stop sign in the Bronx back in February. I did run the stop sign but I was ready to ask the judge to dismiss the ticket for something stupid… but she dismissed it before I even opened my mouth! hahahaha…. She noticed that the ticket was never filled out correctly. The cop forgot to write what he had pulled me over for. She called it a “Defective Ticket”… I’d like to call it “The Perfect Ticket”. You don’t get too many of those around here. Especially when they take a half an hour to fill the damn thing out.

The man before me got the same exact ticket, from the same exact cop and he had a lawyer! I was laughing throughout the entire thing. Little did I know what my chance in front of the judge was going to turn out like… So the lawyer first asks the judge to dismiss the ticket because the cop failed to tell his client why he had pulled him over. She says no… Next the lawyer asks the cop to state his name and then he follows to ask the judge to dismiss the ticket because the cop failed to write his complete name on the ticket… She says no again… hahaha… I was rolling… Al fin el tipo le dice al juez que si, que el suavemente paso el Stop sign… He had a translator and the guy said exactly what he said. hahahaha… what a idiot… and his lawyer didn’t help him out at all! If I would have been him, I would have fired him the minute I heard him asking the judge to dismiss the ticket because the cop had failed to tell him why he pulled him over. Thats normally the first thing they ask you or they tell you… But this guy didn’t understand Inglish so i doubt he understood anything the cop told him.

Jersey courts are a whole lot easier. I know because I’ve gotten my share of speeding, stop sign, and reckless driving tickets. The first thing I do is call my lawyer. He charges me between $375-500 for his services depending on wether I have a 2 pt, 4 pt or 6pt ticket… I’d rather pay that then the $1,000+ on insurance… If I have a 2 pt ticket I don’t even bother calling my lawyer… I just show up on my courst date and I bargain with the prosecutor. The day of my appearance with my lawyer, he already has everything planned. He has already talked with the prosecutor, someone that you never see in NY courts unless you’ve been charged with a serious offense such as drunk driving, urinating in public, graphitti, etc… You can actually negotiate those offenses in NY… but not the moving violations. So here in Jersey we have prosecutors even for moving violations. Thats the good thing tho.. you can actually bargain with the prosecutor to reduce the points on a ticket or amend it to another offense other then a moving violation. They normally do amend it to a parking ticket or a minor infraction such as obstruction of view or illegal plate cover etc. as long as it’s a 2 point ticket or they will even lower it from a 4 pt to a 2 point ticket if you bargain with them… If you have a lawyer, it doesn’t matter if it’s a 4 point ticket or a 6 point ticket, if he can pull strings he will find ways to amend the ticket to another violation. In turn you have to pay the fine that the judge imposes.
